Esprit S2.2 New Chassis

The trouble with the MOT test and rusty chassis is a simple one.

If the tester cannot prove it is rusted to a dangerous level, then he/she cannot fail it.

They are not allowed to use hammers to test it, only a needle gun, these fire small bolts of steel at a pre-determined force on a reciprocal action, imagine 50-100 tatoo needles all in 1 tool. The idea is the tester cannot damage the car with that tool, but historically some rogue tested used to bash the chassis metal so hard that it deformed god metal , all designed to generate more repair work, which they may well carry out.

My europa was bought with an MOT, and failed ona couple of pionts whern I had it tested, neither were chassi, however when i went to remove the steering rack the captive nuts were attached to paper thin steel plate which ripped rather than allow the bolts to undo. The reason was the tester couldn't get there to check it, so couldn't fail it.

I have already seen on eBay your chassis.

Sadly it's not for my car, anyway it could be good for someone.

THanks

Hi

Could an S3 chassis be made to fit an S1 or S2 ?

Has anyone ever tried fitting one ?

I Know the rear suspension is different and that it holds a larger radator,oh and the fact it's galvanised, there much else ?

Hi

I Haven't taken my body off yet so I'm not sure. I'm in Gozo atm for another week, as soon as I get home I will start striping the car down.

Was just wondering about the chassis differences really

It's great Paul that yours was repairable I'm just hoping I'm as lucky

I'm currently undertaking a full body off resto and my mechanic says my chassis may be rusted beyond repair. We haven't done a full strip and blasted yet but in the event that it's too far gone where would one find another S2 chassis? Does anyone make them new?

Just replace the rot but jig it first. I replaced all of the tubular sections on mine as well as the engine mounting brackets.
