Car Aerial Size

G'day Gurus

The weather is nice and the time maybe right to attempt to change the car aerial......MAYBE

Question :

I have a new electric aerial .. that i hope may fit my 87 S3HC........

Though dont want to assume the Lotus postion.... to instal it ...ONLY TO FIND IT IS THE WRONG SIZE!!!!

Does anyone know what size it is?

To be more precise ..... the lenght from the top of the motor to the end of the aerial

The new one i have got ... is er : Under fender lenght 13"

The aerial has never worked since i have had the car 2002..... PO said that he had the relay disconnected...

I cant remember if the cause was it ....... It didnt want to come down ... or if it went up and down ditto ditto

So i have this aerial ... thinking it may fit

Till i shipped her to warmer climate.....Though if too hot she dont go out ......paint fade

I just pulled mine out this morning. I'd hoped to repair it, but the gear inside has been stripped.

It's 300mm long from the threaded portion that sticks out of the body to the end of the drain pipe.

Hi Dave

If you can find a replacement that will fit (in Australia) can you let me know the source.

I tried about 8 or 9 years ago to get one for my S1 but anything available in Oz was too long by miles.

LOL ...6 months after i post a thread...... it gets picked up on ....LOL

Im still looking ... mainly as said b4 ...I dont want to pull half the car apart ... only to find its the wrong size ....

Ok guys ...... esp in OZ

Try Straithfield car radios ...... Or Coventrys ... they have a selection and pretty cheap also.

It's great to have one taken out of car .......to compare with a new one in SHOPs

Please let me know ...what the result is ....

I'd say that at the age of the Gcars.... getting a replacement mast only .. not viable.... cause if and when it fits ... teh motor will die!!!

Don't know about S1 but I recently had one fitted at Esprit Engineering.Geoff also said they fit S3 and turbo and he had a few on the shelf
