LotusSpeculation has been rife recently with Jacques Villeneuve been touted as a potential driver after his recent visit to the Lotus HQ at Hethel but the Lotus Formula 1 Team principal Tony Fernandes denied Villeneuve was on their short list.

But Fernandes did confirm that Jarno Trulli is on the short list, as is Malaysia’s Fairuz Fauzy and 2 other unnamed drivers. 35-year-old Italian Trulli, who scored his sole F1 pole at Monaco in 2004 while driving for Renault, is expected to sign with Lotus in the coming week as their no1 driver.

Fernandes said Lotus were prepared to pay for the best available talent and have an overall budget of £55m for the coming 2010 season.
