Known within the sports industry as the ‘Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ this weekend sees the 94th running of the Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Speedway, better known as the Brickyard and the natural home of IndyCar racing. The event, broadcast into 292 million households, is so huge that it runs over two weekends starting this weekend (22nd -23rd May) with qualifying followed by an entire week of activities in the build up to the main event on Sunday 30th May.
So this weekend please spare a thought for Lotus driver Taku as he steels himself to conquer one of the all time great iconic motorsport events for the very first time. And as if this pressure alone weren’t enough, he has legendary Lotus driver Jim Clark’s success to live up to – the Scottish driver enjoyed the traditional celebratory bottle of moo-juice when he won the race back in 1965 in the Lotus 38.
Still need some convincing about the awesomeness that is the Indy 500? Well if milk’s not your thing then maybe hot dogs or rather Indy Dogs are – if the amount of Indy Dogs consumed at the event last year were laid end to (slightly sticky) end they would lap the 2.5 mile IMS oval track more than two times – now that’s a whole lot of hot dog! Let’s hope the track is clear by the time Taku gets out there.
