Lotus Aftersales is pleased to announce the completion of two customer centric price reviews. Firstly for brake disc & pads followed by its clutch components and prices. Both reviews have allowed us to launch our new customer centric pricing strategy.

To enable the dealer network to look after our customers, Lotus cars has taken feedback from our Dealer Partners. Based on this information, we have looked at ways of improving our retail prices across brake friction parts and clutch range.

Brake discs will now be sold in pairs with the retail prices being realigned to become more competitive in the marketplace, with a reduction of 27% against current brake pad RRP. The Elise cross drill brake discs have been reduced by up to 48%.

Brake pad prices have also been realigned. Allowing the retail prices to become more competitive in the marketplace, with a reduction of 20% against current brake pad RRP. Therefore, the retail price of Elise brake pads has been reduced by an average of 22% for the front and 28% for the rear.

Lotus Cars go to enormous lengths to approve its brake products for our high-performance vehicles. The Lotus vehicle dynamics team is widely known as the benchmark that all other manufacturers base their performance against. Please see below further details on the processes our engineers go through to approve brake parts.

Development of the OEM braking system is an analytical and practical process with the practical elementincluding rig (environmental dynamometer) and vehicle testing.

Lotus products are, of course, global market road cars with an emphasis towards track usage so our design, test and validation must consider this broad spectrum of vehicle usage.

When initially sizing the braking system, vehicle inputs and attribute targets such as vehicle performance (acceleration and Vmax), GVW and weight distribution, stopping distances, peak disc temperatures and airflow and design constraints such as wheel sizes and dynamic clearances are key points to note.

Lotus brake sizing tools are employed to ensure these targets are met and used to optimise pad area, TMC and caliper piston sizing, disc mass and vent gaps (thermal capability), pedal feel and front-rear bias to get the best out of the brakes including optimisation of the anti-lock system.

Environmental considerations are also a requirement in terms of pad compounds, ELV compliant coatings and end of use recyclability.

In terms of component design /testing we work closely with our component suppliers to validate our requirements (Lotus discs and calipers are bespoke to the application as is the ABS-TCS-ESP software calibration).

In development, there are strict regulations and test standards which must be carried out to validate fitness for purpose.  These include Lotus track-focussed enhancements to ensure the durability and attribute targets of this safety-critical system are met.

These vehicle testing regimes are predominantly proving-ground based and include high-mu (dry tarmac), split mu (wet tiles) and low mu (ice /winter) for all scenarios of high speed and handling manoeuvres.  Typical road driving and mileage accumulation is also used to consider such the aspects of lifecycle (wear) and NVH (brake noise).

Why use anything other than OEM?

With prices realigned, improved Dealer profitability, factory support & parts that’s are developed and homologated for all countries, why leave yourself vulnerable and fit non-OEM?

Lotus Clutch Kits

In regard to Clutch pricing Lotus cars have looked at the parts required to effectively replace the clutch on it’s current model range and have created clutch kits.

These kits will include all the parts to replace a clutch in line with the company guidelines The pricing strategy will see a reduction in the retail price of Lotus clutches by an average of 22% on current RRP.

For V6 powertrain models, it is strongly recommended to replace the flywheel assembly (together with the relevant bolts), therefore, four new kit part numbers have been created specifically for these, again with enhanced value pricing.

The pricing strategy will see a reduction in the retail price of flywheels by an average of 28% on current RRP.

This new pricing strategy reduces the retail price of an Evora S clutch kit by up to 28% and the flywheel by 44%.

These two incentives along with the recently introduced National Fixed Price Service Price will help drive down the cost of ownership of the current Lotus range.
