Lotus Cup Europe – Assen Race Report

Steve Williams stamped his authority over the Assen circuit from the first Practice session this weekend, at the final rounds of the Lotus Cup Europe season.  However a spin in the filthy conditions of race one relieved him of the lead, damaging the splitter on his 2-Eleven, which resulted in an eventual retirement.  This left flying Dutchman Marc Schipper to dominate in the rain, with John and Gregory Rasse making it an all-Exige podium, whilst the highest placed 2-Eleven of Christophe Lisandre was only sixth.

With a drying surface the following day, Williams reasserted his authority, despite early challenges from Schipper and Lisandre.  He was followed by another podium appearance from the Rasse brothers, who had once again fought their way up from relatively low grid positions, John once again prevailing.

On a weekend when driving ability counted for more than the machinery at their disposal, the Production class leaders also finished well in the overall order.  Both Gavin Kirby and Markus Nikowitsch were in the top ten, the former’s seventh place following a subdued qualifying performance behind Nikowitsch and James Knight.  The Invitation class honours were shared between Cai Cederholm and David Harvey.
