The Lotus Forums recently arranged for the 2 fastest Lotus road cars to fight it out head to head on the test track at the Lotus Factory in Hethel with Lotus’ own Head of Vehicle Dynamics, Matt Becker behind the wheel.

The 2 cars from 1994 and 1999 respectively are named after their power output with the Sport300 being a road going version of the race Esprit, the X180-R which successfully campaigned in the USA with Doc Bundy driving. The Sport350 is a 3.5 Twin Turbo V8 with lightweight handlay body structure, plenty of carbon fibre parts, unique blue plenum cover and carbon fibre aerodynamic wing. The car also featured lightweight magensium alloy wheels which retail at over £2,500 a pair and AP Racing calipers!

If you want to find out who came out on top in this epic battle, you’ll have to buy Octane (February 2010) which is on sale now.
