This image of a 1981 Eclat is striking in every sense. It’s great to see one of the more overlooked Lotus cars being given the attention it deserves. It was first spotted in the Elite/Eclat/Excel picture thread and it left an immediate and lasting impression. Thankfully, photographer David Maurer was willing and able to supply a copy at short notice, so here it is for you to download, once you’re done staring of course. Simply click the thumbnail below, then, once opened, right click and ‘save as’.

Our sincere thanks to David for sharing the image with us. It’s one of a series which must rank among the best ever taken of the Eclat. You can see them among David’s exceptional collection of work at www.davidmaurer.com and I very much recommend that you do. You can also follow David on Facebook here, Tumblr here and Behance here.
Of the car and the shot David had this to say: “A British classic: The Lotus Éclat 2.2, built in 1981. Mixing natural light and uncommon lighting tools to achieve a variety of different and unique looking images within one series. The roughness of a deserted industrial environment underlines the bold Lotus design.”
I for one think the Elite and Eclat are looking better than ever in 2016, I reckon this could be a good year for the Lotus 2+2. A British classic indeed!
