Picture of The Month – May 2017

It's customary at this time of year to choose a shot from the TLF day at MBW. This year I asked PoTM regular Malcolm Feth to choose his favourite shot from the event and he sent back this striking For Your Eyes Only double-act. Both cars are Compomotive-shod dry sump Turbos as you would hope and well known to regular visitors here (the white one is especially familiar!). Both cars were built in 1981 too which should please the founder of nineteen80one.com no-end. Malcolm sent me the image before the sad news was announced this week but it now seems … [Read more...]

Another sunny day shines for TLF International Lotus Day

For the 4th successive year, TLF International Lotus Day was held in conjunction with Mercedes Benz World and Brooklands Museum. A grey start to the day saw attendance slighty down on previous years however after midday the clouds broke and guests enjoyed a lovely, sunny afternoon. The variation of cars attending was as ever, excellent and everyone had clearly made the effort to present their cars in tip-top condition. For some, it was their 4th year at the event but we were pleased to see many new faces and meet with new members. Our Concours D'Elegance was packed … [Read more...]

Following a clean sweep of both practice sessions and pole position in qualifying, Georges surged into an early lead in the first encounter, and his Exige V6 was never headed. Fellow front-row starter Lisandre followed in his 2-Eleven but could … [Read more...]

Picture of The Month – April 2017

This month the rather magnificent Lotus 80 steals the show. Taken by Wolfgang Mauser at the Nurburgring's AVD OldTimer GP in 2013, it's an usually good shot of an extremely rare car. Even back in its day the ground-breaking, ground-effect car only entered a total of 3 races and completed just one. Mario Andretti managed to bring it home for a remarkable podium place in the 1979 Spanish Grand Prix - no mean feat in a car so experimental that team-mate Carlos Reutemann refused to drive it! The idea was to maximize under body ground-effect by running skirts along the … [Read more...]
