Lotus Technology has officially opened the order books in mainland Europe for the Eletre X—the brand’s first vehicle utilizing its new proprietary X-Hybrid architecture.

Aimed at bridging the gap between pure electric performance and long-range grand touring, the Eletre X pairs a 900V EV setup with an intelligent onboard generator. Prices in Europe start at €96,990, with continental deliveries expected to begin in Q4 2026.

UK enthusiasts will have to wait a bit longer: right-hand-drive (RHD) homologation is underway, with UK deliveries projected for Summer 2027.

X-Hybrid: Electric-First, Petrol-Backed

Unlike traditional hybrids that rely strictly on mild energy recovery, Lotus’s X-Hybrid system acts as an onboard power station.

  • The Powertrain: A 70 kWh high-discharge battery system coupled with a 150kW onboard generator, powered by a 2.0-litre Turbocharged engine.
  • How it Works: The engine does not directly drive the wheels; instead, it acts purely as an intelligent generator to top up the battery during sustained high-load driving, high speeds, or long trips.
  • Range & Charging: The setup yields a pure EV range of up to 350 km, and a staggering total combined WLTP range of over 1,200 km. If you do plug it in, its 900V architecture allows a 20–80% charge in just 9 minutes on a 350 kW DC fast charger.

Obsessive Weight Saving & True Lotus DNA

Purists naturally question the weight of a dual-energy powertrain, but Lotus claims its engineering team aggressively shaved weight from the body frame, electric drive system, and battery casing. As a result, the Eletre X is actually up to 120kg lighter than its fully electric counterpart, the Eletre 900.

True to Hethel’s heritage, aerodynamic porosity is baked into the design, directing air through the bodywork to manage drag and cooling. Active aerodynamics include a front grille shutter and an active rear spoiler capable of generating up to 120kg of downforce under heavy braking.

  • Suspension: Dual-chamber air suspension paired with dual-valve adaptive dampers that react to road conditions in 2 milliseconds.
  • Stopping Power: Six-piston Brembo brakes handling thermal recovery, wrapped in custom-developed Pirelli P Zero 5 LTS tyres.

Inside the Cabin

The driver’s cockpit features a slimmed-down digital display running Lotus Hyper OS, backed by an NVIDIA Thor computing architecture and 30 perception sensors. Crucially for driving engagement, analogue controls have been retained for primary functions alongside a crystal-clear head-up display. Sustainable cabin materials include Alcantara, carbon fibre, and ‘Wyron Truecycled’ upcycled textiles, complemented by a premium 23-speaker KEF audio system.
