Picture of The Month – January 2017

Here's just the thing to blast away the January blues - a retina-bursting green S2 Exige. It's an appropriately intense hue for the evergreen pocket trackday rocket. This shot really captures the essence of the car - it looks taught, compact, dynamic and more fun than any fair ride. The streaks of light in the background suggest it's pulling more G than the Waltzers too. The shot was taken by Martyn Lewis, who is no stranger to PoTM, shortly after he had it so vividly resprayed and he still owns the car today. Martyn:  "I was heavily into my night photography at the … [Read more...]

Picture of The Month – December 2016

We figured you couldn't get a lot more seasonal than a snow and ice dusted, bright red Elise. So here's your PoTM for December, a dynamic rig shot and very dramatic angle, courtesy of New Jersey photographer Mike Hyatt. Mike's work has already featured for the month of August this year and despite some strong competition, this shot was always going to be hard to beat for December. Hopefully it will be enough to tempt one or two Elise owners to crank their heaters up and get out there to take a few shots of their own. Treat your desktop, smartphone or tablet this … [Read more...]

Picture of The Month – November 2016

What could be more appropriate for the 3rd of November than this 311 blasting out of Spa's iconic Eau Rouge corner? This particular example in sinister matt black with gloss black stripes is owned by a Belgian enthusiast who currently owns two 211's in addition to this, the very first customer 311 to roll off the production line. It is with his kind permission that we are able to share this image with you, taken by Curbstone's photographer at one of their recent track events. Not content with the factory output of 410bhp, the car has already been treated to a power … [Read more...]

Hexagon Lotus help the Queen celebrate her 90th birthday

On Saturday October 15th 2016, British classic vehicles with combined valuations of £19,033,150 lined up on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace to help commemorate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty. They were inspected, on her behalf, by HRH Prince Michael of Kent. Each of the ninety vehicles was manufactured in a specific year of her life, and represented that year. The first was a 1926 'Bullnose' Morris Oxford Tourer, the last an impressive 2016 Ford Focus RS. Among the many other superb machines on display, in possibly the best-ever gathering of British vehicles, … [Read more...]

Earl’s Court Lotus Elan SE Launch Car Rediscovered

The actual vehicle that was unveiled by Lotus CEO, Mike Kimberley, at the 1989 Earls Court British Motor Fair, has recently resurfaced after languishing unused and unloved for several years, having been rescued by Lotus enthusiast and dealer Guy Munday. The oldest surviving prototype (No14) even pre-dates the decision to resurrect the “Elan” name and, therefore, is registered under the project codename “Zante”. It is thought to be the only surviving example still to wear this name. Accompanying the car are internal documents circulated amongst the Lotus senior … [Read more...]

Picture of The Month – October 2016

October's winner is hot off the press from James at Oversteer Photography. Posted only this week on Facebook, it shunted the image I had lined-up smartly into next month. Many thanks to James for his kind permission and for being so helpful at very short notice. Of this captivating shot, he had this to say: "I was asked by a friend to shoot his father-in-law's prized possessions: His incredible Lotuses. This is one of the most difficult shoots I've had to edit, two light painted cars in one shot isn't easy... I've always been a huge Lotus Cars fan, the Esprit … [Read more...]

Picture of The Month – September 2016

This month's winner features a number of notable 'firsts'. It's our first winner from Norway. It's definitely the first Exige we've seen with WW2 fighter plane graphics and it's our first PoTM shot on a smartphone. Naturally, it helps having the stunning Lysefjord as a backdrop but it just goes to show that the photographer's eye still counts for more than the photographer's camera. Brought to you with kind permission from Tommy Lund, who also owns the car, we think the toothy decals really suit the Exige, particularly when set against the sharky titanium grey … [Read more...]

[PICS] Lotus Festival 2016

Once again, Brands Hatch was the venue for this year's Lotus Festival. With the promise of a sunny August Bank Holiday weekend thousands attended the event which included over 1,000 Lotus cars parked up inside the circuit. With a full weekend of exciting racing from many race series and championships including Lotus Cup UK, Elise Trophy and the FIA LoTRDC Lotus Cup Europe, there was plenty for visitors to see and do. Despite typical Bank Holiday showers, the Show 'n Shine competition had a record entry list with some stunning cars lined up, making judging incredibly … [Read more...]

Picture of The Month – August 2016

This image really caught my eye on Facebook a few weeks ago and thanks to New Jersey photographer Mike Hyatt, we're able to share it with you for August's PoTM. Mike has really managed to capture some serious attitude from the Elise with a backdrop that looks so exotic to us in Europe, yet somehow the little Norfolk rocket looks right at home in NYC. In fact, it looks positively 'badass'! Just the thing to go around frightening two ton muscle cars in. It's not an easy image for anyone in Europe to replicate so I think it will remain the best shot of an Elise in the Big … [Read more...]
