There’s probably not a single motoring enthusiast in the country who hasn’t followed the saga of where – or if – the British Grand Prix was going to be held this year. Donington told us after last year’s show that their Exhibition Centre was scheduled to be demolished because of the proposed circuit development works. Since then much has happened and we now know that the British Grand Prix will stay at Silverstone leaving Donington in a very sorry state with parts of the track and infrastructure destroyed.

Consequently, we’ve had to find a new venue for our Club Lotus Show and we’re very happy to announce that it’s moving to the Three Counties Showground at Malvern over the weekend of 17/18 April 2010 so please put the date in your diaries now. We looked at lots of venues last summer but Malvern stood out above all others. It’s located in a central and beautiful part of the country and has excellent access from the M5. The showground is immaculately kept with plenty of good parking on both flat, level grass and tarmac.

The main hall is heated and unlike Donington will be carpeted throughout. It has lots of natural light thanks to a good number of transparent roof panels and also has fewer pillars in the hall. These features combine to give the hall a light and airy feel and will enhance the car displays and trade stands. There’s no race circuit of course but as Donington was the only track in the UK with an exhibition hall attached this was always going to be an impossible ask. However, we think the advantages of Malvern more than balance this out and we’re planning to add some new attractions to the event to run alongside the regular favourites.

We’re bringing back our interactive technical seminars and if you have any suggestions on subjects let us know now and we’ll include them in the timetable. We’ll also be running more live practical technical demonstrations which proved so popular last year. CTM Performance Engineering and Lotusbits (engines), Nick Fulcher (trim and upholstery), Option One Sportscars (fibreglass repair and spraying) and Spyder Cars (chassis) will be there again and we’re hoping to add new sessions on electrics/wiring as well. During the weekend there’ll be plenty of opportunities to ask the experts and increase your knowledge of all things Lotus.

As always there will be lots of specialist Lotus trade stands selling everything from new cars to spare parts and accessories plus a large Lotus Autojumble. Other attractions inside the two halls will include Lotus club displays and a private/trade used car sales area – in fact something for everyone. We’re looking for good condition and/or interesting Lotus cars for exhibit in the halls. If you’d like to offer your car for display or alternatively have a Lotus for sale contact us at Club HQ on 01362 694459/691144 for more information.

2010 is the 50th anniversary of Lotus’ first Grand Prix victory when Stirling Moss triumphed at Monaco in his Rob Walker Lotus 18. It’s also 40 years since Jochen Rindt and Lotus became World Champions before tragedy struck at Monza and with the help of Classic Team Lotus we’ll have special displays marking both of these important events in Lotus history.

Ticket prices on the gate are £9.00 (Saturday) and £7.50 (Sunday) but Club Lotus members who book in advance can buy tickets at the special price of £7.00.
