Lotus have been working hard of late getting their current products on the silver screen, keeping up with a legacy of Lotus cars making it big in the movies and on TV. We all remember James Bond so famously driving his S1 Esprit off the pier in Sardinia to escape the murderous Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) then using his built in missiles to destroy her helicopter after a hard fought chase in The Spy Who Loved Me. Â The Esprit also made it back into Bond’s hands in the later For Your Eyes Only, plus roles in Basic Instinct and Pretty Woman. More recently, the Evora has been used in music videos and many TV shows including; Swinging with the Finkels, Emmerdale, Desperate Housewives, Californication, Switched at Birth, Hunted and Chambre 327.
2013 sees two new films with Lotus cars making their screen appearances. First off, The Host sees Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) injected with an alien soul. Rather than the parasite taking over the Earth, “Wanda” as she becomes known, bonds with her host and sets about helping other infected humans, all in a shiny chrome Lotus Evora!

The next appearance is a laser blue Exige S in RED 2, starring Bruce Willis and John Malkovich amongst others. This action movie is a sequel to the 2010 RED and follows the antics of these assassins who prefer to do things ‘old school’. Due to hit the screens in August, the Exige S performs a neat under-truck pass, not recommended unless you’re a stunt driver!

What makes these appearances not only reinforce the car’s image and performance plus act as a credit to Lotus, is the fact that the product placement arrangements have been entirely free of charge, costing the company nothing in exchange for the use of the cars, a long way from Ford spending tens of millions to get Bond in an Aston Martin. Way to go Lotus!
