The Elise Trophy and Lotus Cup UK Championship heads to Snetterton this weekend (25/26 June) for the Lotus Festival, which promises to be a very special event!
For once the racing takes second place to some of the greatest Formula 1 cars of the last 50 years, including the world-beating Lotus 25 and 79 that provided Team Lotus’ first and last World Championships respectively. The newly-restored Type 102 will also be present, the only Lotus to feature a V12 engine and with all three cars running down the long straights at Snetterton, this is sure be a special occasion. Other attractions include the outrageous Elise GT1 and the Evora GT4.
The brand new Lotus Cup UK Championship heads into its third round with a 35-car grid featuring round two winner Mark Fullalove. Back in his 2-Eleven, he faces Jamie Stanley and Glen Sherwood’s Exige, Mark Spellers’ 340R and David and Rob Fenn’s Motorsport Elise. However they will all be looking out for the Type 102’s original driver, Martin Donnelly, in an Evora GT4 – the first time the V6 car has raced in the series.
With entries closing on a full grid two weeks ago, the Elise Trophy is as open as ever this year but Ken Savage, Luigi Mazza, Stuart Rowland and Steve Quick were the men on form at the Norfolk circuit in March and will be the ones to watch. All of them will no doubt be taking part in a World Record attempt for the largest number of Lotus cars in a moving parade and will certainly be watching the F1 cars of the past as they entertain the crowd!
